Foot length → Mondo → shell check

Ski Boot Size Chart & Mondo Calculator

Measure the longer foot for a starting Mondo, then verify the exact boot with a shell check.

Choose your sizing task

Example

Heel to longest toe, standing. Measure both feet and use the longer.

Example foot length, 26.2 centimetres. Replace it with your measurement.

How to measure in 60 seconds
  1. Put paper on a hard floor with one edge against a wall.
  2. Follow the chosen brand's method: current charts differ between barefoot and a thin ski sock. Add no allowance.
  3. Stand with your heel at the wall and weight on that foot.
  4. Mark the longest toe with the pencil upright.
  5. Measure wall to mark; repeat and use the longer foot.

Foot length starts the size; the shell check confirms the boot. Width and volume still matter.

Shell break to verify

Many alpine models group 26.0 / 26.5.

Some brands/models group 26.5 / 27.0 instead.

A half-size label does not prove a different shell. Check the exact model chart or boot-sole-length stamp (BSL).

Physical verification

Run the shell check before you buy

The label is only a starting point. A liner-out heel-gap check tells you whether this exact physical shell is close, average, or clearly too roomy.

How to measure ski boot shell gap A foot inside an empty ski boot shell touches the front while a ruler measures the gap behind the heel. heel gap · mm liner removed · toes touch lightly
  1. Remove the linerMeasure the plastic shell, not the cushioned inner boot.
  2. Wear a thin ski sockSlide the foot into the empty shell with the heel down.
  3. Touch the front lightlyLet the longest toe just meet the shell; do not curl the toes.
  4. Measure behind the heelEnter the gap in millimetres in “Check a boot.” About 10 mm is close, 20 mm average, and 30 mm too large in Atomic's current reference.

Reference zones are fitting guidance, not a diagnosis. Side contact, instep, heel pocket, liner and cuff still need assessment.

What the number cannot see

Length is only one dimension

Width and instep

Published last width is model-specific and usually quoted at a reference shell size. It cannot be prescribed from one width ratio.

Heel and volume

Two feet with the same length can need different heel pockets, instep heights, liners and shell shapes.

Flex

Flex indexes are not standardized across brands. Build, strength, ankle movement, temperature and boot construction all change how a number feels.
